Nursing Nightmare?

I don't know why, but this morning I woke up with a very very sore left breast. I don't know why I would be engorged, Michaela has not made a single change with her eating habits. She is not eating more frequently or for more time like she usually does when she hits a growth spurt. She ate just as frequently as usual last night. I can't figure this out! I had to deal with a blocked duct once before, but this doesn't feel like that. I'm starting to worry. What does it feel like when you dry up? I can't dry up now, Michaela is not even a year yet and she refuses to take a bottle anymore. Please give me some advice and tell me that drying up doesn't feel like this!

Drying up shouldn't hurt, at least in my experience...it doesn't really feel like anything, other than the baby stops wanting to nurse because nothing is coming out. I wonder if you have mastitis? Might be worth a call to your nurse. Is she able to get any milk out of that side at all?

I had a problem with drying up early with the last baby, and he would not take a regular bottle either... but a bottle with a preemie nipple, he would take. Worth a try. Good luck!!!

I know that when I felt like I was drying up I took some herbs that made my milk come back. The Herbs worked awesome! A lactation nurse told me about them. There are 2 types of herbs you take at the same time. If you are interested just let me know and I'll get you the names.

It doesn't sound like you are drying up ,and if you know it doesn't feel the same as a blocked duct, I would contact your nurse, if you haven't already, because it could be mastitis which can go from bad to worst pretty darn quick! Have you had a fever or anything? I would continue to nurse her on that side, and offer that side first to really let her work at it. If it is sore you can put a heating pad on it, or take a hot shower. Drink extra water too!

Make sure you drink enough and have enough calories every day. And a trip to your local herb store could help as well!

Oh... and do check with your doctor to see if it could be mastitis. Hope all is well!
